Incentives are positive or negative stimuli that lure or repel us from reducing drives. Optimal arousal theory says that some motivational behaviors actually increase arousal. last of all, Maslow's hierarchy of needs,  a pyramid diagram showing our needs on each level, going from physiological to self transcendence.
