You have a circular plasmid containing 9 kb of DNA, and you wish to map its EcoRI and BamHI sites. When you digest the plasmid w

ith EcoRI and run the DNA on a gel, you observe a single band at 9 kb. You get the same result when you digest the DNA with BamHI. When you digest with a mixture of both enzymes, you observe two bands, one 6 kb and the other 3 kb in size. Explain these results. Draw a map of the restriction sites.

Answer:

A nick is created between G and A in GAATTC when using Eco R1 site while a nick is generated between G and G in GGATCC when Bam H1 is used. The difference in the nicks created is the main reason you observe two bands when you digest the circular plasmid with a mixture of both

Explanation:

Circular plasmid containing : 9 kb of DNA

Eco R1 and Bam H1 are known as restriction sites in DNA ( i.e. special sequences found in a DNA ) hence they can be specifically cleaved by the restriction enzymes enabling the insertion of a gene. that is why you will get a same result when you digest the Plasmid with either Eco R1 or Bam H1

but A nick is created between G and A in GAATTC when using Eco R1 site while a nick is generated between G and G in GGATCC when Bam H1 is used. The difference in the nicks created is the main reason you observe two bands when you digest the circular plasmid with a mixture of both

Risk of toxicity is higher with fat- vitamins. True or False
LiRa [457]

Answer:

True

Explanation:

The fat-soluble vitamins, A, D, E, and K, are stored in the body for long periods of time and generally pose a greater risk for toxicity than water-soluble vitamins when consumed in excess. Eating a normal, well-balanced diet will not lead to toxicity in otherwise healthy individuals.

What part of the brain controls language understanding?
neonofarm [45]
The answer is Wernicke's area.

Wernicke's area and Broca's area are two parts of the cerebral cortex responsible for speech. Wernicke's area controls language understanding while Broca's area controls language production. Wernicke's area is found in the left cerebral hemisphere. If Wernicke's area is damaged, the person will be diagnosed with fluent aphasia. This means that person will be able to fluently connect words (since Broca's area controls this part), but the person will not understand languages and the sentences will be meaningless.

At the supermarket you typically find three types of onions: red, yellow, and white. When true breeding plants with red onions w
Sindrei [870]

Answer:

2 genes.

Explanation:

In F1 there are two genes involved in the determination of color, the gene that codifies for white onions and the gene that codifies for red onions, the white gene was the dominant gene giving all white onions. F2 progeny has white, red and yellow onions. That means that in the case of yellow onions there is a codominance between the red and white gene because both of them were expressed giving 80 yellow onions. In the case of the 250 red onions the dominant gene is the red one and the withe is recessive. Finally for the 980 white onions the white gene is the dominant one and the red one is the recessive.
