English

Answer: Jack, having just killed a pig, is too excited by his success to care very much about the missed chance to escape the island. Indeed, Jack’s bloodlust and thirst for power have overwhelmed his interest in civilization. Whereas he previously justified his commitment to hunting by claiming that it was for the good of the group, now he no longer feels the need to justify his behavior at all. Instead, he indicates his new orientation toward savagery by painting his face like a barbarian, leading wild chants among the hunters, and apologizing for his failure to maintain the signal fire only when Ralph seems ready to fight him over it.

The __________ postulates that individuals engaging in a new behavior, such as adopting a regular exercise program, move through
dlinn [17]

Answer:

The transtheoretical model of behavior change postulates that individuals engaging in a new behavior, such as adopting a regular exercise program, move through the stages of precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, and maintenance.

Explanation:

The transtheoretical model of behavior change was developed in 1977. It is a result of analysis and application of several psychotherapy theories - hence the name "transtheoretical". Its purpose is to assess someone's readiness to change an unhealthy behavior, trading it for a healthier one. The stages are:

1. Precontemplation

2. Contemplation

3. Preparation

4. Action

5. Maintenance

6. Termination

The stages vary from: a person not being ready to change a harmful behavior at all --> the person thinking of the possibility and beginning to admit his behavior is unhealthy --> the person taking small steps toward change and intending to do it for good --> the person modifying their behavior openly --> the person keeping the new behavior going for over six months --> the person feeling no temptation to return to the previous harmful behavior.

Which aspects of a literary work can help the reader determine the author's purpose?
earnstyle [38]
The word choice and tone are the primary aspects of a written work which can help the reader determine the author's purpose. For example, a satire using caustic words will allow the reader to see that the work is a satire and is aimed at being critical of the subject at hand. On the other hand, a humorous work will have a  lighthearted tone in which the author uses funny words to describe a situation or a person.
