Answer:

a. Function: Yes

Domain = 1, 5, 10, 11, 14

Range = 6, 50, 150, 176, 266

b. Function: Yes

Domain = All positive integers

Range = All positive integers

c. Function: The relation is not a function

Step-by-step explanation:

A function is a relation where each input value has only one output value

a. The given data are presented as follows

\begin{array}{cc}Width \, (m)&Area \, (m^2)\\1&9\\5&50\\10&150\\11&176\\14&266\end{array}

For each value of the input variable, the width, there is exactly one out put variable, therefore, the relation is a function

Function; Yes

The domain, the input values, includes; 1, 5, 10, 11, 14

The range, the output, values, includes; 6, 50, 150, 176, 266

b. Hours worked versus salary

\begin{array}{cc}Hours \ worked &Salary\\0&0\\10&\$300\\20&\$600\\30&\$900\\40&\$1200\end{array}

For each value of the input variable, hours worked, there is exactly one out put variable, therefore, the relation is a function with the following equation;

Salary = $30 × Hours worked

Function; Yes

The domain, the input values, includes; All positive integers

The range, the output, values, includes; All positive integers

c. Height versus age

\begin{array}{cc}Height \, (cm)&Age\, (years)\\160&20\\160&25\\160&30\\160&35\\160&40\end{array}

For each value of the input variable, the height, there are more than one  out put variable, the age, therefore, the relation is not a function

Function; No

What are the domain and range of f (x) = log (x minus 1) 2?.
statuscvo [17]

You can use the definition of logarithm and the fact that a positive number raised to any power will always stay bigger than 0.

The domain of the given function is  {x | x > 1 and a real number }

The range of the given function is \mathbb R (set of real numbers)

<h3>What is the definition of logarithm?</h3>

If a is raised to power b is resulted as c, then we can rewrite it that b equals to the logarithm of c with base a.

Or, symbolically:

a^b =  c \implies b = log_a(c)

Since c was the result of a raised to power b, thus, if a was a positive number, then a raised to any power won't go less or equal to zero, thus making c > 0

<h3>How to use this definition to find the domain and range of given function?</h3>

Since log(x-1) is with base 10 (when base of log isn't specified, it is assumed to be with base 10) (when log is written ln, it is log with base e =2.71828.... ) thus, we have a = 10 > 0 thus the input x-1 > 0 too.

Or we have:

x > 1 as the restriction.

Thus domain of the given function is {x | x > 1 and a real number }

Now from domain, we have:

x >  1\\&#10;x-1 > 0\\&#10;log(x-1) > -\infty\\&#10;log(x-1) + 2 > -\infty\\&#10;f(x) > -\infty (log(x-1) > -infinity since log(0) on right side have arbitrary negatively large value which is denoted by -infinity)

Thus, range of given function  is whole real number set \mathbb R (since all finite real numbers are bigger than negative infinity)

Thus, the domain of the given function is  {x | x > 1 and a real number }

The range of the given function is \mathbb R (set of real numbers

What is the x-intercept of -2x 5y = 20 ? question 1 options: 10 4 -4 -10?
Ahat [919]
You mean -2x+5y=20 if it was that's how you do it
so if you're finding the x intercept the y will turn to 0 why because you're only looking for x their's no need for y
so it will be -2x+0=20
-2x=20 if it's multiplication then you change it to division
-2x/-2=20/-2
x=-10
