Mansa Musa was the a devout Muslim. He was also the richest man in history almost four times richer. He was the wealthiest man in history, and he believed his wealth should be shared. He would often just give away jewels and gold to strangers. It was during his great pilgrimage to Mecca that he became so famous, because he gave out gold to almost everyone he met along the way, so by the time he made it to Egypt there were many people awaiting his arrival. His charity is what made him so popular across Europe and sealed his place in the charity books. Along with being a philanthropist, he was also very religiously tolerant. Allowing Muslim women to be unveiled as well as wear clothing that did not cover all of their skin. He also believed in free education, allowing every child in Mali to attend school if they so wished. He even set up a university that scholars from all over the world to come to and visit.
