Explain how human insulin can be produced using gene splicing.
Margarita [4]

Answer:

The gene for human insulin is inserted into the gap in the plasmid. this is done through the use of restriction enzymes and ligase to insert and close the plasmid. This plasmid is now genetically modified. The genetically modified plasmid is introduced into a new bacteria or yeast cell. The more the cells divide, the more insulin is produced as bacteria divides into two identical daughter cells like in mitosis.

Which regions best identifies where myosin would have maximum cross-bridge access to actin?
8090 [49]

Region between 2 and 3

Explanation:

Muscles consists of two protein filaments:a thick filament which is made up of protein myosin whereas a thin filament is made up of protein actin

 • During contraction, thin filaments slide past the thick filament resulting in shortening of sarcomere
 • Myosin thick filaments grab on to the actin filaments by forming cross bridges
 • The thick filaments pull the thin filaments past them making the sarcomere shorter
 • The region between points 2 and 3 includes the area of overlap between thin and thick filaments

How can carbon dioxide be considered a pollutant when it is a natural component of air?
Oduvanchick [21]

The correct answer is option B

Carbon dioxide is present in the environment along with the other gases and still it is considered as a pollutant when its concentration in the atmosphere increases than the normal concentrations.

The normal concentration of the carbon dioxide is maintained by the help of plants that use carbon dioxide for the process of photosynthesis.

The increased amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is caused due to the human activity.

Industrial release, pollution from automobiles are some of the sources of carbon dioxide emission.

Animal regeneration can produce whole organism or parts of organism and repair injury.

Clones today are done at genetic level by using molecular biology techniques as compared to old days when only nucleus would be removed from the egg cell and desired nucleus is inserted for cloning.

Explanation:

Regeneration is a process in which whole organism or part of which is produced from pre existing cells or group of cells and tissue. Regeneration helps in maintaining the integrity of morphology and physiology.

In lower animals like hydra and planaria whole organism is generated by existing parts. This process is termed as totipotency.

In higher animals however injury repair by mitosis is an example of regeneration.

Plant structure involved in vegetative propagation are: bulbs, rhizomes and tubers.

Vegetative propagation can be done by grafting, cutting, bulb formation, tuber, layering and tissue culture methods.

Cloning is a process in which a genetical or identical copy of an organism or the cell is made by molecular biology techniques. The use of DNA sequences, molecular scissors, stem cells and plasmid are the latest techniques of cloning.

Cloning is used for treating serious diseases as diabetes and heart injury.

In old days one cell would have its nucleus removed and placed into the egg and eventually organism produced

Advantages of tissue culture:

From a single explants, large number of plants can be made.

Obtaining plants of desired trait from tissue culture is easy in short span.

No seeds are required for the growing of new plants.
