Typically, house-raising is more popular in rural community and almost never happen in Urban Area.  In most cases, it's held to help out the neighbor who somehow experiencing some unfortunate disaster (House broke down because of flooding, burned because of gas leak, etc)

The materials used in house-raising usually came from the environment around the neighborhood.  In United States , house-raising is most common in states such as Louisiana and Vermont.
