What is an equation of the line that is perpendicular to y+1=-3(x-5)
Lana71 [14]

Answer:  3y - x - 42 = 0

Step-by-step explanation:

The equation                         y  +  1 = -3(x - 5)

Now expand the expression by opening the brackets

                                              y + 1 = -3x + 15

Recall,

Equation of line , y = mx + c , where m = slope

rearranging the equation above in order to determine the  ( m)

                                             y = -3x -1 + 15

                                             y = -3x + 14

Recall again  condition for perpendicularity

                                             m₁m₂ = -1

From the equation given, m₁ = -3, therefore , to get m₂

                                           -3 x m₂ = -1

                                            -3m₂    = -1

Therefore                               m₂    = -1/-3

                                               m₂   = 1/3

Now , to find the equation of the second line parallel to the first one,

Just replaced the -3 in the equation above by  m₂ = 1/3 in

               y = -3x + 14

               y = x/3 + 14

Now , multiply both the RHS and LHS of the equation by 3, to make it a linear.

              3y = x + 3 x 14

               3y = x + 42

              3y - x - 42 =0

the federal helium reserve held about 20 billion cubic feet of helium in 2010 and is being depleted by about 1.9 billion cubic f
Naya [18.7K]

The linear equation for the remaining Federal Helium Reserves, r(t) = 20 -1.9t

There is 20 billion cubic feet of Helium in 2010. Helium is depleted by about 1.9 billion cubic feet each year.

Let 'r' denotes the remaining Federal Helium Reserves in billions of cubic feet.

Let 't' denotes the number of years since 2010.

We have to find a linear equation to represent the depletion of Helium through years since 2010. A linear equation will have two variables, one dependent and one independent variable. Here, let 'r' be the dependent variable and 't' be the independent variable.

Then the amount of Helium depleted in 't' years = 1.9t

So, the remaining Helium in the Federal Helium Reserve since 2010 = 20 - 1.9t.

Thus, r(t) = 20 - 1.9t

This is a linear equation because it depends on only one variable, 't'.

Yea lol how do u do this
seropon [69]
Hello!!

So what they are giving you is the x,y coordinate of the terminal side of an angle. Meaning 4,10 is the point x=4 and y= 10.
So if we have that, then we can solve for the quadrant that the angle falls in. So for two positive values it tells us it falls in quad 1.

So we have x and y so now use x^2+y^2=h^2 to solve for hypotenuse.

So we get h=sqrt(4^2+10^2)= sqrt(116) or 2*sqrt(29).

Now knowing our trig identities.
Sin= y/h
Cos=x/h
Tan=y/x
Csc=h/y=1/sin
Sec=h/x=1/cos
Cot=x/y=1/tan

So now we have
X=4 Y=10 H=2*sqrt(29)

Now we just use the above identities and plug and chug for your answers. Doing the same one point(4,10)
Sin=10/2*sqrt(29)= (5*sqrt(29))/29
Cos=4/2*sqrt(29)= (2*sqrt(29))/29
Tan=10/4=5/2
Sec=2*sqrt(29)/10= sqrt(29)/5
Csc=2*sqrt(29)/4= 2*sqrt(29)/2
Cot=4/10= 2/5

Now do the same thing as above for all sets of your questions.

Hope this helps!! Any questions please just ask! Thank you so much!

2. In how many ways can you form 3-letter "words" from the letters of "Adelphi" so that the first and last letters are vowels? N
kondaur [170]

Answer:

The total number of ways are 30.

Step-by-step explanation:

Consider the provided information.

We need to write 3-letter "words" from the letters of "Adelphi" so that the first and last letters are vowels.

The number of letters in "Adelphi" = 7

The number of vowels are = 3

It is given that the first and last letters are vowels.

For first letter we have 3 choices, and for the last letter we have 2 choices as repetition is not allowed.

If we have selected first and last letter that means now we have 5 letters for the middle letter. (7-2=5)

So the number of possible choices for the 2nd letter is 5.

Hence, the total number of ways are: 3×5×2 = 30 ways
