If a 12 kg cat is sitting 5 m up in a tree, how much PE does it have?
Helen [10]

Answer:

588 J

Explanation:

PE (potential energy) = (mass) x (gravity) x (height)

mass = 12 kg

gravity = 9.8m/s^2

height = 5 m

PE = (12) x (9.8) x (5) = 588 J (Joules)

How do X-rays and ultrasounds differ ?
Nonamiya [84]
Ultrasound is vibrations, just like sound is vibrations. Ultrasound travels though the body just like sound would and when it hits something, it bounces back, where it is picked up by a receiver. which then makes an image out of it.

X-rays are electromagnetic waves, like visible light. Other examples of electromagnetic waves are infrared, and ultraviolet. But people cant see infrared nor ultraviolet, even though they are just like visible light. The difference between visible light and all these other kinds of light are just like the difference between red and blue. They are both light but different colors, ultraviolet and infrared are colors we cannot see, and in fact, we can see only a tiny portion of the colors out there. X-rays are just like all these kinds of light and we cant see it but it is able to go through most of the body, bot not bone. Doctors use x-rays to see bones and things like that in the body because x-rays won't pass through bone, but they will go through muscle and skin. So when a doctor takes an x-ray, its just like making a silhouette, but with colors we cant see. Of course, the x-rays make the photo paper change color and that's how we are able to see the image but the principle is the same.

A gymnast of mass 70.0 kg hangs from a vertical rope attached to the ceiling. You can ignore the weight of the rope and assume t
DiKsa [7]

Answer:

T = 686.7N

Explanation:

For this exercise we will use Newton's second law in this case there is no acceleration,

      ∑ F = ma

      T -W = 0

The gymnast's weight is

     W = mg

We clear and calculate the tension

     T = mg

     T = 70 9.81

     T = 686.7N

Suppose you are in a moving car and the motor stops running. You step on the brakes and slow the car to half speed. If you relea
In-s [12.5K]

Answer:

See the answer below

Explanation:

If you step on the brake of a car while driving, the frictional force between the tires of the car and the surface of the road increases in opposition to the motion of the car. Consequently, the car slows down.

If you release your foot from the brake pedal when the car is still at half speed, the frictional force reduces and the car speeds up a bit even without pressing the throttle. Eventually, the frictional force will slow down and stop the car if the throttle is not pressed.
