Answer: the vendor sold 40 apples and 20 oranges.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x represent the number of apples that the fruit vendor sold.

Let y represent the number of oranges that the fruit vendor sold.

The fruit vendor sells 60 pieces of fruit that are either apples or oranges. It means that

x + y = 60 - - - - - - - - - - -1

There are 1.5 times as many apples as oranges. It means that

x = 2y

Substituting x = 2y into equation 1, it becomes

2y + y = 60

3y = 60

y = 60/3

y = 20

x = 2y = 2 × 20

x = 40

Need help solving systems by elimination
Tomtit [17]
Ok so 6x - 3y = -21
And 4x = 3y - 9
From the second equation, 4x - 3y = -9
So if you subtract the second from the first,
(6x-3y) - (4x-3y) = -21 - (-9)
So 2x = -12
x = -6

Now we know x=-6, and you can sub it back into any equation:
6(-6) -3y = -21
-36 - 3y = -21
-3y = 15
y = -5

So x=-6 and y=-5
Hope this helps

What is the value of k?<br><br> 2k+9=7−3k
Elena-2011 [213]
2k + 9 = 7 - 3k

2k + 9 - 7 = -3k

2k + 2 = -3k

2 = -3k - 2k

2 = -5k

-2/5 = k

k = -2/5

hope that helps, God bless!

I got 2 questions.
alexandr402 [8]

Answer:

1. In triangle ABC,

AC = a = 10, BC =b= 7 and ∠ C = 90°

By cosine law,

AB^2 = 7^2 + 10^2 - 2\times 7\times 10 cos 90^{\circ}

AB^2 = 49 + 100 - 0

AB^2 = 149

AB= \sqrt{149}

Now, by the law of sine,

\frac{sin B}{10} = \frac{sin90^{\circ}}{\sqrt{149} }

sin B = \frac{10}{\sqrt{149} }

\angle B = 55.0079798014\approx 55.008^{\circ}

2. In triangle ABC,

∠B = 30°,  AB=c=10 and ∠C = 90°

∠A = 180°-(30+90)°=60°

\frac{AC}{10}=sin30^{\circ}

⇒ AC = \frac{10}{2} = 5

By Pythagoras,

CB^2 = AB^2 - AC^2=10^2 - 5^2 = 100 - 25 = 75

⇒ CB = \sqrt{75} =8.66025403784\approx 8.66
