X=10
The reason for this is you distribute the 3 giving you 5+x=3x-21+6.
Then add the 6 to make 5+x=3x-15
Add 15 on both sides to make 20+x=3x
Subtract x on both sides to be 20=2x
Divide both sides by 2 to make 10=x

So 4 eggs is 2/3of 6 eggs, so to get the amount of milk we multiply the 3 cups by 2/3 (or just divide by 3 and multiply by 2) and get 2 cups of milk.
Hope this helps!

Solve the following system using the SUBSTITUTION method.
x - 3y = 2
2x - 6y = 6
notka56 [123]

ANSWER:

 • x – 3y = 2 ...(1)
 • 2x – 6y = 6 ...(2)

On solving eq(1), we get

 • x – 2 = 3y
 • x – 2/3 = y

Plug the value of x in eq(2)

 • 2x – 6(x - 2/3) = 6
 • 2x – 2(x – 2) = 6
 • 2x – 2x + 4 = 6
 • 0 = 6 – 4
 • 0 ≠ 2

So, given system of equations is not correct.
