Answer:

AD = 60

Step-by-step explanation:

→If DE ║ AB is given , then ∠E ≅∠B  and ∠D ≅ ∠A ( corresponding angles are congruent) there for ΔCDE ≈ ΔCAB ( because of the AA similarity theorem.)

→Since ΔCDE ≈ ΔCAB then their sides are in proportion so we write the proportions:

CD / CA = CE / CB

→substitute the sides with what is given in the picture, and find x so we can further find AD.

5x / 5x+2x-4 = 8x / 8x+3x, combine like terms

5x / 7x-4 = 8x / 11x, cross multiply

5x * 11x = 8x *(7x-4), multiply and distribute multiplication over subtraction

55x² = 56x² - 32x, subtract 56x² and add 32x to both sides of the equation

55x² - 56x² +32x = 0, combine like terms

-x² +32x = 0, factor -x

-x(x-32) = 0, so there are 2 possibly situation

→ Find x then substitute in AD = 2x-4 to find AD

-x = 0  so x = 0, will give us AD = 2x-4 = 2*0 -4 = -4, we reject this solution because a length can not be negative

x-32 = 0 so x= 32, will give us AD = 2x -4 = 2*32 -4 = 64 -4 = 60.

The width of a rectangular garden is 8 feet longer than 4 times its length. If the garden's perimeter is116 feet, what are the d
Travka [436]

SOLUTION:

Step 1:

The length of a rectangular garden is 8 feet longer than its width.

If the garden's perimeter is 184 feet.

What is the area of the garden in square feet?

Step 2:

L = length

W = width

L = W+8

P = perimeter

P = 2(L+W)

P =184 (given)

Substitute L=W+8 in the perimeter equation

2( (W+8) + W ) = 184

(W+8) +W = 92

2W + 8 = 92

2W = 84

W = 42 ft ( Width = 8 feet )

L = W+8

L = 42+8

L = 50 ft ( Length = 50 feet )

Always check your work.

In this case, check the perimeter.

2(L+W) = ?

2(50+42) = 184 feet.

CONCLUSION:

Then, the question says:

It asks for the area in square feet.

A = Area

A = L*W

A = 50 ft * 42 ft

A = 2100 sq ft.

Step-by-step explanation:

two polygons are similar if corresponding angles are congruent and corresponding sides are proportional

If two polygons are SIMILAR, then the corresponding sides must be proportional

The composition of two (or more) isometries is always an isometry

4. A rectangle has a length of 9 mm. A similar rectangle is drawn using a scale of 1:3. What is the length of the second rectangle?
