What is the average rate of change of f(x) = −2x + 1 from x = −5 to x = 1?
Fiesta28 [93]
Average rate of change is just the slope between the 2 points
we can do this the long way or the smart way

long way, find the 2 points and find the slope between them
when x=-5, f(-5)=-2(-5)+1=10+1=11
when x=1, f(1)=-2(1)+1=-2+1=-1
so the points are (-5,11) and (1,-1)
the slope between them is (-1-11)/(1-(-5))=(-12)/(1+5)=-12/6=-2
the answer is B, -2

smart way
recognize that that is a linear equation and the slope between any 2 points will be the m in y=mx+b
f(x)=-2x+1
the slope is -2
the average rate of change is -2
answer is B. -2

When is a *-m/n* a real number? *superscript
Aleksandr [31]

Since real numbers are closed with respect to division (i.e. the division between two real numbers is again a real number), the fraction -\frac{m}{n} is a real number everytime both m and n are real numbers.

In other words, you can choose any real number m and any real number n, and their ratio will still be a real number.

Of course, you have to follow the only rule that you can't divide by zero, so the answer is more precisely

m \in \mathbb{R},\quad n \in \mathbb{R}\setminus\{0\}

Rhombus ABCD has a diagonal BD¯¯¯¯¯. m∠ADB=(5x+10)° m∠CDB=(4x+19)° What is the m∠ADC ? Enter your answer in the box º
Lorico [155]

Answer:

110°

Step-by-step explanation:

5x+10=4x+19

5x-4x =19-10

x = 9

m <em>L</em><em> </em>ADB = 5(9)+10=45+10=55°

so m <em>L</em><em> </em>ADC = 2×55° = 110°
