Answer:

20y + 5  (I think this is it)

Step-by-step explanation:

15 + 4(5y - 10)

4 x 5y = 20y

15 + -10 = 5

20y + 5

By how many degrees did the direction of the boat change
gulaghasi [49]

Answer:

The boat turned <u>39°</u> degrees when it made its first turn.

Step-by-step explanation:

The question is as following:

A boat traveled north for 28 miles, then tuned x° south west and traveled for 25 miles before stopping. When it stopped, the boat was 18 miles from its starting point.

By how many degrees did the direction of the boat change when it made its first turn? Round to the nearest degree.

===================================================

See the attached figure which represent explanation of the problem.

The boat start from point A to point B then stopped at point C

AB = 28 miles, BC = 25 miles and AC = 18 miles.

It is required to find the angle x

By applying the cosine Rule:

AC² = AB² + BC² - 2 * AB * BC * cos x

18² = 28² + 25² - 2 * 28 * 25 * cos x

2 * 28 * 25 * cos x = 28² + 25² - 18²

1400 cos x = 1085

Cos x = 1085/1400 = 0.775

x = Cos⁻¹ 0.775 = 39.2° = 39° to the nearest degree.

So, the boat turned <u>39°</u> degrees when it made its first turn.

The sum of the digits of a two-digit number is 12. The number formed by interchanging the digits is 54 more than the original nu
-BARSIC- [3]
Let X and Y be the digits.
If a two-digit number is written XY, then its value is 10x+y.
When the digits of the number are interchanged, it's YX, and its value is 10y+x.

The sum of the digits is 12.
The number formed by interchaning the digits is 54 more than the original number.

x+y=12 \\&#10;10x+y+54=10y+x \\ \\&#10;x+y=12 \\&#10;10x-x+y-10y=-54 \\ \\&#10;x+y=12 \\&#10;9x-9y=-54 \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ |\div 9 \\ \\&#10;x+y=12 \\&#10;\underline{x-y=-6} \\&#10;x+x=12-6 \\&#10;2x=6 \\&#10;x=\frac{6}{2} \\&#10;x=3 \\ \\&#10;x+y=12 \\&#10;3+y=12 \\&#10;y=12-3 \\&#10;y=9

The digits X and Y are 3 and 9, so the original number is 39.

To my knowledge, the answer should be there is no difference since I found the sum, however the answer is something else,
olga nikolaevna [1]
In the first series, the summation applies to the whole (2n+3) inside
the parentheses, so the 3 gets summed up 5 times.

But in the second one, the summation only applies to the 2n , so
the 3 is only added after the summation is finished.

The difference between five 3s the first time and one 3 the second time
is your 12 .
