n a rural area, only about 30% of the wells that are drilled find adequate water at a depth of 100 feet or less. A local man cla

ims to be able to find water by "dowsing"—using a forked stick to indicate where the well should be drilled. You check with 80 of his cus- tomers and find that 27 have wells less than 100 feet deep. What do you conclude about his claim?

Answer: the man's claim is true.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that 30% of the well find water at a depth <=100 feet

P(X<=100) = 0.30

If the man's prediction work well the probability of finding well at less than 100 or equal should be high fwhen calculated from his results. So give 27 out of 80 wells

P(X<=100) = 27/80

P(X<=100) = 0.3375

Since 0.3375 > 0.3

The man's claim is true.

I need help with this geometry question
MArishka [77]

Answer:

Approximately 7.8 units

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the distance between any two points, we can use the distance formula:

d=\sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2}

From the graph, we can see that A is (0,0). Let's let this be x₁ and y₁.

B is (-5,6). Let's let this be x₂ and y₂. So, substitute:

d=\sqrt{(-5-0)^2+(6-0)^2}

Simplify:

d=\sqrt{(-5)^2+(6)^2}

Square:

d=\sqrt{25+36}

Add:

d=\sqrt{61}

Take the square root. Use a calculator:

d\approx7.8

So, the distance between them is about 7.8 units.

And we're done!

Solve the system of equations by finding the reduced row-echelon form of the augmented matrix for the system of equations.
ycow [4]

This  involves quite a lot of arithmetic to do manually.

The first thing you do is to make the first number in  row 2  = to 0.

This is done by R2 = -3/2 R1 + R2

so the matrix becomes

( 2        1          1)    ( -3 )

( 0    -13/2   3/2)   (1/2 )

(5       -1           2)  (-2)

Next step is to make  the 5 in row 5  = 0

then  the -1  must become zero

You aim  for the form

( 1 0 0) (x)

(0 1 0) (y)

(0 0 1) ( z)

x , y and z will be the required solutions.
