Why did a direct democracy work well in ancient Athens while the modern USA must have a representative democracy?
netineya [11]

Answer:

The ancient Greeks were the first to create a democracy. The word “democracy” comes from two Greek words that mean people (demos) and rule (kratos). Democracy is the idea that the citizens of a country should take an active role in the government of their country and manage it directly or through elected representatives. In addition, it supports the idea that the people can replace their government through peaceful transfers of power rather than violent uprising or revolution. Thus, a key part of democracy is that the people have a voice.

The italian City-states were in a central___ for trade.<br> Fill in the blank
Reil [10]

he Italian city-states were a political phenomenon of small independent states mostly in the central and northern Italian peninsula between the 9th and 15th centuries.

After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, urban settlements in Italy generally enjoyed a greater continuity than in the rest of western Europe. Many of these towns were survivors of earlier Etruscan, Umbrian and Roman towns which had existed within the Roman Empire. The republican institutions of Rome had also survived. Some feudal lords existed with a servile labour force and huge tracts of land, but by the 11th century, many cities, including Venice, Milan, Florence, Genoa, Pisa, Lucca, Cremona, Siena, Perugia, Spoleto, Todi, Terni, and many others, had become large trading metropoles, able to obtain independence from their formal sovereigns.

I’ll make you brainliest if answer for each question is at least two sentences long
alex41 [277]

Answer:

I am a child of the eighties, a child of parents of the sixties. They were both liberals and brought me up to be a liberal who believed everyone was equal. I was brought up on the music of Pete Seeger, Tom Paxton and a bunch of others  it was part of the music of my childhood and it formed a good part of my political ideology.

And if I were to travel back to the 50s now, you can imagine how I would react to segregation  utter abhorrence and disgust and protesting against it as much as possible.

An 1896 Supreme Court decision, Plessy v. Ferguson, had declared “separate but equal” Jim Crow segregation legal. The Plessy ruling asserted that so long as purportedly “equal” accommodations were supplied for African Americans, the races could, legally, be separated. In consequence, “colored” and “whites only” signs proliferated across the South at facilities such as water fountains, restrooms, bus waiting areas, movie theaters, swimming pools, and public schools.
