Recall your d = rt, distance = rate * time.

going into the country, he went for 9 miles, coming back it was the same 9 miles.

let's say hiking his speed is "r" mph, and he took "t" hours hiking.

now, 3 hours and 20 minutes is just 3 hours and one third, or 3 and 1/3 hour.

if he took "t" hours hiking, driving in the car, it took the slack from 3 and 1/3 and "t", or 3 1/3 - t.

\bf \begin{array}{lccclll}
&\stackrel{miles}{distance}&\stackrel{mph}{rate}&\stackrel{hours}{time}\\
&------&------&------\\
walking&9&r&t\\
driving&9&27&3\frac{1}{3}-t
\end{array}
\\\\\\
\begin{cases}
9=rt\implies \frac{9}{r}=\boxed{t}\\\\ 9=27\left(3\frac{1}{3}-t  \right)\\
----------\\
9=27\left(3\frac{1}{3}-\boxed{\frac{9}{r}}  \right)
\end{cases}
\\\\\\
\cfrac{9}{27}=\cfrac{10}{3}-\cfrac{9}{r}\implies \cfrac{1}{3}=\cfrac{10r-27}{3r}\implies 3r=30r-81
\\\\\\
81=27r\implies \cfrac{81}{27}=r\implies 3=r

Let n be the man's walking rate. Then:
9/n+9/27=3&1/3
243+9n=90n
243=81n
n=3
The man's walking rate was 3 mph

The new dimensions or scale according to the information provided is now 4m/2units. See the explanation below.

<h3>What is the explanation justifying the above answer?</h3>

According to the given graph, the perimeter is 12 units. The current scale is 48m to 12 units (or 4m to 1 unit). Hence the new scale will be twice the original graph.

That is:

2m/1 units = (2m x2)/ 1unit x 2

= 4m/2units.

See the attached and enlarged new image.

Section II

The dimensions of the picture are as follows:

Length: acm

Width: bcm

Thus,

Length ⇒ acm/lft = lcm/5ft

L = (5a)ft

Width: ⇒ bcm/wft = Lcm/5ft

w = (56) ft

Another picture:

Length: 5a/8 cm

Width: 5b/8 cm

Let R be the region enclosed by the y-axis, the line y=1 and the curve y=x^3. A solid is generated by rotating R about the line
scZoUnD [109]

Answer:

The volume of the solid is 19.\overline{142857} unit³

Step-by-step explanation:

The given function is y = x³

The solid is created by revolving R about the line y = 1

We have that when y = 1, x = 1

Taking the end point as x = 2, we have the volume given by the washer method as follows;

V = \pi \cdot \int\limits^a_b {\left( [f(x)]^2 - [g(x)]^2 \right)} \, dx

Where;

a = 1, and b = 2, we have;

g(x) = 1

V = \pi \cdot \int\limits^{2}_1 {\left( [x^3]^2 - [1]^2 \right)} \, dx  = \pi \cdot \left[\dfrac{x^7}{7} + x \right]_1^{2} = \pi \cdot \left[\dfrac{2^7}{7} +2 -\left( \dfrac{1^7}{7} + 1\right)\right] =19\dfrac{1}{7}

The volume of the solid, V = 19\dfrac{1}{7} unit³ = 19.\overline{142857} unit³

Can someone check 1/10 and 9???? Thnx
fiasKO [112]
For numbers 9 and 10, we are dealing with negative exponents.

The rule of exponents states that any quantity b, taken to the power -n, equals the reciprocal of b, taken to the nth power.

Example: x⁻³ = 1 / x³

Number 9: ( 3 / y² ) ⁻³

Step 1: take the reciprocal:

( 3 / y² ) ⁻³ = ( y² / 3 ) ³

Step 2: distribute the exponent

( y² / 3 ) ³ = y⁶ / 27

Try to do number 10 on your own. If you have any questions, comment.
