In health, a degenerative disorder refers to a condition that progresses over time and deteriorates the patient, in some cases causing death or the deterioration of one specific organ or tissue. Examples of degenerative disorders include cancer that leads to the destruction of different tissues and organs and Alzheimer's diseases that deteriorate the mind of the patient over time.
However, epilepsy is not considered as a degenerative disease, because although this affects the peripheral nervous system and can be chronic (persists over time) it does not lead to deterioration. Indeed, seizures which are the main symptom of epilepsy can be controlled in most cases through medication and do not become worse over time. According to this, it is false epilepsy is considered a degenerative disorder.
