Healthy competition occurs when the goal of the competition is not to win but to achieve other benefits, such as learning more about the subject under discussion, such as the game of chess. Over-competition in sports can be hazardous to a child’s mental health. It’s bad for the less athletic students because they feel awful[or think] they’re letting the team down, and if they’re dropped, they’ll be rejected. However, it might be an issue for high achievers who are concerned about their performance.
