What is the theme? Joanne stood before the crowd blushing and wringing her hands. She looked out and saw the room full of faces.

Some she knew, and some she did not. But, they were all here to listen to her. Taking a deep breath, she opened her mouth, but no words came out. Tears formed in the corners of her eyes as she closed them. With her eyes closed, she imagined her mother helping her get dressed and ready for tonight. "Just do your best," is what her mother had told her. She opened her eyes and found her mother's smiling face in the crowd. Relaxing, she took another deep breath and started singing. She did not stop until she finished, and the crowd was on their feet applauding. After the show, she found her parents and her friends. They all had wonderful things to say about her song and how proud they were because she kept going even when it seemed like she might give up. She shrugged her shoulders and shared a smile with her mother. "I just did my best," she answered. *

What is one effect that parallelism has on a written work?
lilavasa [31]

D. it clearly connects ideas

Parallelism is when the same grammatical or sentence structure is used for a list of ideas or items. By using a similar grammatical structure the reader's brain automatically makes a connection between the ideas because of the similar structure. Caesar's famous line "I came. I saw. I conquered." is an example of parallelism. Each of the sentences has the format subject-past tense verb.

How can you distinguish between a main verb and a verb phrase with a participle in a sentence?
professor190 [17]

The major way to distiguish a main verb and a verb phrase with a participle in a sentence is to pay close attention to how the verb functions or what element does it modify.

While main verbs express action, participles look like verbs but function as modifiers or adjectives, and they usually end in -ed or -ing.

For example, in "The smiling postman waved at the children", the participle "smiling" functions as a modifier, indicating what kind of postman was "waving" (the main verb expressing an action).

Another example would be "The meal cooked last night smelled good". Here, "cooked last night" explains which meal performed the action expressed by the main verb "smelled".

To conclude, while main verbs express or indicate action, verb phrases with a participle function as adjectives modifying nouns.

Can people only be complete once they embrace their ancestral culture explain why
k0ka [10]

Answer: Not exactly.

Explanation: No, I wouldn't say people are only complete when they're aware of their ancestral culture. Many people have no idea who their great great great grandma was, or even know she existed. I think a lot of people are focused on the now, and either don't have time, or just wouldn't like knowing. It is a very good thing to be proud of your culture, and where you've come from, but it is not a necessity. You don't need to embrace your culture, or race, to be confident and proud of who you are.
