There are several ways you can solve this problem if you're trying to solve for m and n. You can substitute, or systems of equations. However, I'm going to use substitution:

2m + n = 0 => n = -2m

We can input that in for the other equation:

m + 2n = 3 now becomes: m + 2(-2m) = 3

Now we can solve:

m + 2(−2m) = 3

m + −4m = 3

(m + −4m) = 3 (Combine Like Terms)

−3m=3

m = -1

Now we can input that value in to solve for n:

We said that n = -2m, and m = -1, so n = -2(-1):Answer:

n = 2

Your final answer is m = -1, and n = 2, which can also be written as (m,n) = (-1,2)

----------------------

However, if you were solving for m+n:

You would add the two equations!:

2m + n = 0

m + 2n = 3

----------

3m + 3n = 3

Now, you can take 3 common:

3(m+n) = 3

m + n = 1

Your final answer for what m + n equals 1!

A canoe traveled Downstream with the current and went a distance of 15 miles in three hours. On the return trip, the canoe trave
coldgirl [10]

Answer:

1 mile/hr

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the Speed of the boat still in water = a

Speed of the current = b

We know from this formula that speed = distance/time

Hence,

A canoe traveled Downstream with the current and went a distance of 15 miles in three hours.

Downstream = a + b = 15/3

a + b = 5 .........Equation 1

On the return trip, the canoe traveled Upstream against the current. It took 5 hours to make the return trip.

Upstream = a - b = 15/5

a - b = 3 ..............Equation 2

Combining both Equation together

a + b = 5 .........Equation 1

a - b = 3 ..............Equation 2

Subtracting Equation 2 from Equation 1

2b = 2

b = 2/2

b = 1miles/hr

Since b = speed of the current which can also be called rate of the current, the rate of the current = 1 miles/hr

Circle A has an area of 25pi square units. Circle B has a radius that is 20% larger than Circle A. What is the area of Circle B?
SVEN [57.7K]

Answer:

Circle B area = 49π square units

Step-by-step explanation:

Circle A radius =√25 = 5 units

(1.2)(5) = 7 = radius circle B

Circle B area = 7²π = 49π square units
