Answer:

The equation of the circle is;

(x - [(-1))² + (y - [7])² = 8

Step-by-step explanation:

The given coordinates of the points P and Q are;

P = (-3, 5) and Q = (1, 9)

To find the equation of the circle that has segment PQ as a diameter

The equation of a circle is (x - h)² + (y - k)² = r²

Where;

(h, k) = The coordinates of the center of the circle

r = The radius of the circle

Given that segment PQ is the diameter of the circle, we have;

The center of the circle, O = The midpoint of PQ

The coordinates of the midpoint of segment PQ, O = ((-3 + 1)/2, (5 + 9)/2) = (-1, 7)

∴ The coordinates of the center of the circle, O = The coordinates of the midpoint of segment PQ = (-1, 7)

Therefore;

h = -1, k = 7

From PQ = The diameter of the required circle, we also have;

The length of PQ = 2 × (The radius of the circle) = 2 × r

The length of segment PQ = √((1 - (-3))² + (9 - 5)²) = √32 = 4·√2

Therefore;

The length of PQ = 4·√2 = 2 × r

r = (4·√2)/2 = 2·√2

r = 2·√2

r² = (2·√2)² = 8

r² = 8

The equation of the circle is therefore;

(x - h)² + (y - k)² = r²

(x - (-1))² + (y - 7)² = 8.

Solve the value of y for the given values of x: 4x = 3y - 7; x= 4,5,6
julia-pushkina [17]
Thhe easiest way would be to solve for y first
4x=3y-7
add 7
4x+7=3y
divide both sides by 3
(4x+7)/3=y

try each
x=4
(4(4)+7)/3=y
(16+7)/3=y
(23)/3=y
7 and 2/3=y
(4,7.66666)

x=5
(4(5)+7)/3=y
(20+7)/3=y
(27)/3=y
9=y
(5,9)

x=6
(4(6)+7)/3=y
(24+7)/3=y
(31)/3=y
10 and 1/3=y
(6,10.333)

(4,7.66666)
(5,9)
(6,10.333)

when x=4, y=7 and 2/3
when x=5, y=9
when x=6, y=10 and 1/3

The ratio of boys to girls in a group is 7:1. If there are 66 more boys than girls, work out how many girls there are
IRISSAK [1]

Answer:11

Step-by-step explanation:

Boys : girls=7:1

Sum of ratio=7+1=8

Let number of girls be y

Then number of boys=y+66

Total number of pupils=y+y+66

Total number of pupils=2y+66

girls only=(girl ratio)/(sum of ratio) x (total number of pupils)

y=1/8 x (2y+66)

Cross multiply

y x 8=2y + 66

8y=2y + 66

Collect like terms

8y-2y=66

6y=66

Divide both sides by 6

6y/6=66/6

y=11

There are 11 girls
