To plan a trip to your state capital, you need the following numbers

  1. The number of available routes
  2. The distance
  3. The speed limit
  4. Time

Assume you're travelling by road, you need to highlight the number of routes between your state and the state capital.

The number of routes is a natural number (i.e. minimum of 1 e.g. 6, 8, 1). Because it is a natural number, the number of routes can never be 0.

Next is to determine the distance to the state capital through each route. In most cases, the distance between places are positive rational or irrational numbers (however, they can be approximated to natural numbers).

The speed limit on each route will also help in planning the trip. Speed limits are always represented as natural numbers. When you know the speed limit (and the distance), you can use that to predict how long (i.e. the time) the trip will take. The formula to use is:

Speed = \frac{Distance}{Time}

Make time the subject

Time= \frac{Distance}{Speed }

The value of time can be estimated/approximated as a natural number.

In addition to the previous number, you may also need the following numbers

  • The liters of fuel to use
  • The amount of fuel per liter

The essence of place value in these number (especially the numbers with decimal points) is to get an estimated value.
