A city planner designs a park that is a quadrilateral with vertices at J(-3,1), K(1,3), L(5,-1), and M(-1,-3). There is an entra

nce to the park at the midpoint of each side of the park. A straight path connects each entrance to the entrance on the opposite side. Assuming each unit of the coordinate plane represents 10 meters, what is the total length of the paths to the nearest meter?

The Quadrilateral is JKLM,

let M_{JK}, M_{KL}, M_{LM}, M_{JM}, be the midpoints of JK, KL, LM and JM respectively.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Given any 2 point P(m,n) and Q(k,l),<span>

the coordinates of the midpoint of the line segment PQ are given by the formula:

M_{PQ}=( \frac{m+k}{2} ,&#10;\frac{n+l}{2}), </span>

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

thus the coordinates of points M_{JK}, M_{KL}, M_{LM}, M_{JM},

are as follows:

M_{JK}= (\frac{-3+1}{2}, \frac{1+3}{2})=(-1,2), \\\\M_{KL}= (\frac{1+5}{2}, \frac{3-1}{2}=(3,1), \\\\M_{LM}= (\frac{5-1}{2}, \frac{-1-3}{2})=(2, -2),\\\\ M_{JM}= (\frac{-3-1}{2}, \frac{1-3}{2})=(-2,-1)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The distance between any 2 points P(a,b) and Q(c,d) in the coordinate plane, is given by the formula:<span>

 |PQ|= \sqrt{ (a-c)^{2} + (b-d)^{2}&#10;}</span>

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

thus the distances connecting the opposite entrances can be calculated as follows:

|M_{JK},M_{LM}|= \sqrt{ (-1-2)^{2} + (2-(-2))^{2} }= \sqrt{9+16}=5

|M_{KL}M_{JM}|= \sqrt{ (3-(-2))^{2} + (1-(-1))^{2}}= \sqrt{25+4}= \sqrt{29}=5.39

Thus the total distance of the paths joining the opposite entrances is

5+5.39 units = 50 m + 53.9 m = 104 m (rounded to the nearest meter)

A rectangle has a height to width ratio of 3:4.5. Give two examples of dimensions for rectangles that could be scaled versions o
OlgaM077 [116]

We have been given that a rectangle has a height to width ratio of 3:4.5.

Let h be height and w be width of rectangle.

We can set our given information in an equation as:

\frac{h}{w} =\frac{3}{4.5}

h=\frac{3}{4.5} *w

Now we will substitute h=1 in this equation.

1=\frac{3}{4.5} *w

3w=4.5

w=\frac{4.5}{3} =1.5

We can see that width of rectangle is 1.5 times height of rectangle.

Our one set of dimensions of rectangle will be: height=1 and width=1.5.

We can get many set of dimensions for our rectangle by multiplying both height and width of rectangle by same number.

Multiplying by 5 we will get our dimensions as: height 5 and width 7.5.

Therefore, (1 and 1.5) and (5 and 7.5) dimensions for rectangle will be scaled version of our rectangle.

The cost to mail a package is $8 for the first 4 pounds and 25 cents for each additional ounce. Which of the following functions
Rina8888 [55]

Answer:

f(x) = 8 + 0.25x

Step-by-step explanation:

The minimum cost is $8, for up to 4 pounds.

The added cost is ($0.25/oz)(x), where x is trhe ounces over 4 pounds

The total cost is the sum of these two:

f(x) = 8 + 0.25x

Suppose that your test statistic is t(99 ) = -2.8888. Round the test statistic to two places after the decimal point.
Scrat [10]

Answer:

t(99)= -2.89

Step-by-step explanation:

-To places after the decimal point is equivalent to rounding off to the nearest hundredth.

-To round off to the nearest hundredth, we check the thousandths digit:

  • If the thousandths digit is less than5, we round down to the previous hundredth.
  • If the thousandths digit is greater than 4, we round up to the next hundredth:

Hence,-2.8888\approx-2.89

What is 2/3 of the distance between the points U (-1,4) and B (8,5)
BlackZzzverrR [31]

Answer:

<h2>         6.037</h2>

Step-by-step explanation:

d=\sqrt{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2}\\\\U (-1,4)\quad\implies\quad x_1=-1\,,\ \ y_1=4 \\\\B (8,5)\quad\implies\quad x_2=8\,,\ \ y_2=5\\\\\frac12d=\frac23\sqrt{(8+1)^2+(5-4)^2}=\frac23\sqrt{81+1}=\frac23\sqrt{82}\approx6.037
