How do I write inequality notation from this graph?

<u>Domain:</u>

The domain is the set of x-values used by the graph.  Because the graph is connected, you can ask yourself the following:

"From how far left to how far right (with respect to the x-axis) does this graph go?"

In terms of x-values, the graph goes to -5 on the left and 2 on the right.  It gets to -5, but has open circles are 2.

-5≤x<2 would be the domain.

<u>Range:</u>

The range is the set of y-values used by the graph.  Because the graph is connected, you can ask yourself the following:

"From how far down to how far up (with respect to the y-axis) does this graph go?"

In terms of y-values, the graph goes to about -3 (or -3.2?) on the bottom and as high as 5.  Both of those values occur at open circles, so it never actually gets that low or that high.

-3<y<5 would be the range.

Both of those answers are assuming your scale is 1 on each axis.

In a spelling bee, Anish's placement is both the 11th highest and the 25th lowest among all the spellers who participated. How m
Vlad [161]

Answer: There are 35 spellers participated in the spelling bee.

Step-by-step explanation:

Since we have given that

Rank of Anish's placement at the highest = 11 th

Rank of Anish's placement at the lowest = 25 th

We need to find the number of spellers participated in the spelling bee.

So, Number of spellers participated in the spelling bee is given by

Highest + Lowest - 1

= 11 + 25 - 1

= 36 - 1

= 35

Hence, there are 35 spellers participated in the spelling bee.

Danielle and David each have a job. Danielle earns $15 an hour. She also receives a $50 weekly bonus. Danielle wrote an equation
S_A_V [24]
For starters, create an equation to show David's earnings. We can do this using Danielle's as a basis, which is set up as y=(# of hours)x+(bonus). This gives us y=12x+80. Now, as we need both their ys to be equal, we just set both equations equal to each other, making 15x+50=12x+80. Now, we solve for x, starting with 15x+50=12x+80, subtracting 12x from both sides to get 3x+50=80, subtracting 50 from both sides to get 3x=30, and dividing three from both sides to get x=10. To check, we just plug in our answer to both equations and see if the ys match up. With Danielle's equation, we get y=15(10)+50=150+50=200 and with David's equation, we get y=12(10)+80=120+80=200, proving that our answer is correct.

I don’t know how to do this
stich3 [128]

To check for continuity at the edges of each piece, you need to consider the limit as x approaches the edges. For example,

g(x)=\begin{cases}2x+5&\text{for }x\le-3\\x^2-10&\text{for }x>-3\end{cases}

has two pieces, 2x+5 and x^2-10, both of which are continuous by themselves on the provided intervals. In order for g to be continuous everywhere, we need to have

\displaystyle\lim_{x\to-3^-}g(x)=\lim_{x\to-3^+}g(x)=g(-3)

By definition of g, we have g(-3)=2(-3)+5=-1, and the limits are

\displaystyle\lim_{x\to-3^-}g(x)=\lim_{x\to-3}(2x+5)=-1

\displaystyle\lim_{x\to-3^+}g(x)=\lim_{x\to-3}(x^2-10)=-1

The limits match, so g is continuous.

For the others: Each of the individual pieces of f,h are continuous functions on their domains, so you just need to check the value of each piece at the edge of each subinterval.

The equation for the cost in dollars of producing automobile tires is c = 0.000015x2 - 0.03x + 35, where x is the number of tire
statuscvo [17]
The cost function is
c = 0.000015x² - 0.03x + 35
where x = number of tires.

To find the value of x that minimizes cost, the derivative of c with respect to x should be zero. Therefore
0.000015*2x - 0.03 = 0
0.00003x = 0.03
x = 1000

Note:
The second derivative of c with respect to x is positive (= 0.00003), so the value for x will yield the minimum value.

The minimum cost is
Cmin = 0.000015*1000² - 0.03*1000 + 35
          = 20

Answer:
Number of tires = 1000
Minimum cost = 20
