for the first one, you first add $1 with 1$ and you would get 2 and then you do 55 cents plus 5 cents which would get 60 cents and then you get $2.60.

For the second one, you multiply 2.60 by 3 and you get $7.80 and you still have $2.10 left so you add that to $7.80 then you get $9.9
