8 Kyle's Pay If Kyle works more than 40 hours per week, his hourly wage for the extra hours is 1.5 times the normal hourly wage

of $10 per hour. Write the linear equation for the portion of the piecewise function that governs Kyle's normal hourly wage, W, representing hours with the variable h. Write the linear equation that governs Kyle's pay when he works extra hours, using W for wages and h for hours.

The equation which governs Kyle's Wages, W are :

 • Normal hourly wage : W = 10h
 • If he works extra hours : W = 400 + 1.5(h - 40)

Kyle's hourly pay = $10

Hourly pay if h ≤ 40

Then there will be no extra hours worked ;

W = 10h

Pay for extra hours, hours greater than 40

If h > 40

Extra hours will be paid at 1.5times the normal hourly rate :

W = (40 × 10) + 1.5 * 10(h - 40)

W = 400 + 15(h - 40)

Not sure how I would solve this
Simora [160]

Answer: -6/5

Explanation:

The blue diagonal line goes through the two points (0,2) and (5,-4). These are shown as the dark blue enlarged points. You can pick any other points you want that are on the diagonal line, though these are the easiest as they stand out the most.

Use the slope formula to find the slope through these points

m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

m = (-4-2)/(5-0)

m = (-6)/(5)

m = -6/5

The negative slope means the line goes downhill as you move from left to right along the diagonal line.
