Find the measure of angle 2... State what the relationship is between angle 2 and the 18 degree angle
sergij07 [2.7K]

Answer:

-The Relationship:

Both \angle 2 and the 18\textdegree angle are supplementary.

The measure of \angle 2:

\angle 2 = 162\textdegree

Step-by-step explanation:

-The relationship about both \angle 2 and the 18\textdegree angle, is that they are supplementary, which they both add up to 180\textdegree.

-To find the measure of \angle 2, you need to subtract 18 from 180 to get the actual angle measurement of \angle 2:

Finding the measure of \angle 2:

180 - 18 = 162

\angle 2 = 162\textdegree

So, now you have the measure of \angle 2 .

What are the roots of the equation x^4- 4x^3=6x^2- 12x. Using a graphing calculator and system of roots.
Vesna [10]

I don't have a graphing calculator and I don't know what the system of roots is.

But I can solve this anyway.

x^4 - 4x^3 - 6x^2 + 12 x = 0

x(x^3 - 4x^2 - 6x + 12) = 0

So x = 0 is a root and we have a cubic equation to solve.

In school the best way to solve cubic equations is to just try some small numbers; teachers seldom venture beyond 1, -1, 2 or -2 as roots. I guess a graphing calculator saves us the search.

Here we see x=-2 is a root; (-2)^3 - 4(-2)^2 - 6(-2) + 12 = -8 - 16 + 12 + 12 = 0.

So, continuing our factoring, x+2 is a factor, and we divide to get the other factor

        x^2 - 6x + 6

x+2 | x^3 - 4x^2 - 6x + 12

         x^3 + 2x^2

                 -6x^2 - 6x

                 - 6x^2 - 12 x

                               6x + 12

So fully factored we have

0 = x(x+2)( x^2 - 6x +6 )

There's a little shortcut I call the Shakespeare Quadratic Formula (2b or -2b) which works when the linear term is even:

x^2 - 2bx + c \textrm{ has zeros } x =b \pm \sqrt{b^2-c}

Here that means we have two additional roots,

x = 3 \pm \sqrt{3^2-6} = 3 \pm \sqrt{3}

Full set of roots:

x = 0 \textrm{ or } -2  \textrm{ or } 3 + \sqrt{3}  \textrm{ or } 3 - \sqrt{3}

Write an equation for a line that is parallel to the graph of 14x-7y=8 that passing through the point at (-2,5)
Setler79 [48]
Parallel means they have the same slope
find the slope
14x - 7y = 8
subtract 14x from both sides
-7y = -14x + 8
divide both sides by -7
y = 2x -8/7

y = mx + b
m is slope
b is y-intercept

We found that the slope is 2
y = 2x + b
to find the y-intercept, plug in the given point
5 = 2(-2) + b
5 = -4 + b
add 4 to both sides
9 = b

The equation
y = 2x + 9

Rewrite to standard form
subtract 9 from both sides
y - 9 = 2x
subtract y from both sides
and rotate the equation
2x - y = -9

Hope this helps
