Becasue, Aerobic means 'with oxygen'. This system starts to 'kick-in' after about 3 minutes and theoretically will go on for ever. The ADP formed during energy production uses energy from glucose/glycogen (carbohydrates), fat or protein breakdown to reform ATP.
