Explanation:

Claim: Group behavior can increase the chances for an individual and a species to survive and reproduce. Evidences for the claim: As the claim suggests that group behavior is favorable for organisms, it increases their chance of survival and reproduction. First of all we have to understand what is group. Group is a collection of same kind of organisms that travel, live as well as perform daily life work together. When organisms are living in a large group they have better chances to find a mate. Living in a group helps the organisms to save them from the attack of predators, because unity is strength. Large groups have more power to access food sources and can find ample source with the assistance of fellow members, than solitary animals. Additional reputable evidence: We have often seen the birds that they form a V shape when they fly in air in a group. Now, this group formation in V helps those birds to navigate their pathways in a better way. They have more chances to reach in their destination even if that is far off from their place of departure, because the whole group's navigating ability help to reach a destination faster. They are better able to reproduce, survive there. Similarly when fish swim in groups, they can avoid the attack of predators and are better able to swim for a longer period of time to reach theri destination. Conclusion: Group behavior equips the organisms with protection and support. It better adapts an organism to survive the harsh effects of the environment.

The white hair of a polar bear is an example of a(n) __________
Anna35 [415]

Answer:

The white hair of a polar bear is an example of adaptation.

Explanation:

Adaptation allows organisms to adjust to their surroundings so that they can survive. Polar bears live in the Arctic region, which is one of the coldest places in our planet. They have sharp teeth and their ears are small to reduce the heat loss. They have a thick coat of insulated fur, which insulates their thick layer of body fat and keeps them warm. They have large paws, that are covered by fur which protects them from sinking in the snow and also provides a good grip on ice. Their coat of white fur helps them to hide from their prey by providing a camouflage in Arctic environments.

Which of the following best describes an aspect of a membrane's molecular structure that causes it to be selectively permeable?
atroni [7]

Answer:

d. Transport proteins within the membrane serve as a tunnel for molecules to enter the cell.

Explanation:

Solutes are typically moved across the cell through either passive or active transport. The cells, surrounded by a bilipid layer or plasma membrane is amphiphlic- its polar, hydrophilic lipid heads face outwards, while their non-polar hydrophobic lipid tails face inwards towards each other.

While lipid-soluble molecules move across the layer easily, it is also difficult for charged and also large molecules to move across its surface, into the cell. Transmembrane channels, embedded within the membrane, help to maintain selective permeability as transport proteins, pores and gated channels. Simple diffusion happens as a method of passive transport in cells through plasma membranes.

The solutes travel through the plasma membrane in the process of diffusion from regions of high concentration to regions of low concentration; this occurs without the use of energy. Molecules moving against their concentration require active transport mechanism to cross the membrane.
