Answer:

Part A:

The cofounding variable is a factor that could cause a result on the experiment. This would be the people taking extra food.

Independent variable would be being asked to sign in or not and take free food, because independent variable is a variable that is changed or manipulated and in this case the people were split in half and the hypothesis is that the people who didn't sign in would take more food.

Operational definitions are important when conducting research because it defines all the variables in the experiment, so it can be replicated. The operational def for the dependent variable would be "Doing the right thing even though you aren't being watched"

Part B:

The data does not support the hypothesis because even the people who signed in could've taken extra food when the dean wasn't looking. The findings cannot be generalized to all students because some students could have been taught better and can differentiate between right and wrong. So the people who were not signed in could've just taken one burger and drink, and the people who were signed in might feel obligated to take more than one burger because they had signed in and didn't just come without signing in.

The study is not a naturalistic observation because the observer did not look at the people who took the food and which side took more food.

Bill Board is trying to reduce his sodium intake to an average of 2300 mg.
Fed [463]

Answer:

mean average = 2542.5 mg

1330 mg

Explanation:

The patient's average  daily intake  of sodium for those 4 days can be calculated by taking the mean average of the sample amounts given over the number of the total days.

mean average = \frac{2150+3005+2700+2315}{4}

mean average = \frac{10170}{4}

mean average = 2542.5 mg

Therefore the patient's average daily intake of sodium for those 4 days = 2542.5 mg

What is the patient’s average daily intake of sodium for those 4 days?

What would his 5th day sodium intake need to be to drop him below an average of 2300 mg

given that mean average = 2300; we can also determine the fifth day sodium intake as follows:

mean average = \frac{2150+3005+2700+2315+y}{5}\\2300 = \frac{2150+3005+2700+2315+y}{5}

2300*5 =2150+3005+2700+2315+y

11500 = 10170 +y

11500-10170 =y

y = 1330 mg

Hence, his sodium intake for the fifth day will be 1330 in order to drop him below an average of 2300 mg

The weight Lucy lost with respect to number of weeks was recorded for six weeks. The correlation coefficient was calculated to b
Aleonysh [2.5K]

Answer: There is a weak, positive correlation between the weight Lucy lost and the number of weeks.

Explanation:

The correlation coefficient is used to measure the relationship between two variables in terms of how they move in relation to one another.

If two variables are said to have a positive correlation, it means that they increase at the same time and decrease at the same time for example, there is a positive correlation between the amount of food a family buys and how much money they have because the more money they have, the more food they buy.

Negative correlations are the reverse for instance Ice cream sales and cold temperatures. The colder it is, the less people buy ice cream.

The Correlation coefficient ranges from -1 to +1 with +1 (-1) meaning that the variables are perfectly positively(negatively) correlated. The closer the value is to 0, the weaker the correlation.

Generally, for a correlation coefficient between the numbers 0 and +0.3, there is a weak positive correlation.

With a correlation coefficient of 0.0502, there is therefore a weak, positive correlation between the weight Lucy lost and the number of weeks.
