Why are so many starch grains found in the cortex?

Biology

There are many grains of starch in the cortex because it represents the reserve food material of plants.

This source of food material is consumed during plant metabolism, as food when plants are under stress, or as an energy source in seed germination and early seedling stages.

The cortex, in plants, is a vascular tissue responsible for the transport of food (processed sap) from the leaves to the rest of the plant .

Starch grains are the most common solid particles that plant cells develop within plastids.

Assimilation starch is a temporary product of photosynthesis and is formed in chloroplasts, while reserve starch is formed in amyloplasts, which are contained in parenchymal cells of the cortex, in vascular tissues of stems and roots, in the pith of stems, in fruits, leaves, fleshy cotyledons and in modified stems, such as tubers and rhizomes.

Starch is the main energy and carbon reserve in plants, supplying the energy and carbon skeletons necessary for the plant's metabolism during periods of darkness, when photosynthesis is inactive.

Therefore, we can conclude that starch grains (ergasstic substances) are found in abundance in the cortex because it represents a reserve of essential molecules for the functioning and maintenance of the cellular structure.

The idea that chromosomes orient themeselves randomly during metaphase I is ________________________. This leads to ____________
lara [203]

Answer:

The idea that chromosomes orient themselves randomly during metaphase I is Independent Assortment. This leads to more combinations of genes.

Explanation:

During metaphase I, the pair of chromosomes align in the plate of the cell. In this step, the independent assortment takes place.

The independent assortment is the distribution of different genes into two gametes, is independent, because the distribution of the different genes, does not influence the distribution of the other genes. The independent assortment leads to new combinations of genes from the parental and maternal side, resulting in offsprings that do not look exactly like their parents.

marusya05 [52]

Answer: Matter and Energy

Explanation:

The producers make food by the help of the process known as photosynthesis. This is the way by which the energy from the sun is transferred from sun to the plants.

Matter is made and transferred from one tropic level to another tropic level. The organic matter is transferred from the producers to the consumers.

The primary consumer converts energy from them to the secondary consumers.

So, the conclusion is that matter and energy is transferred from one tropic level to another tropic level.
