There are two questions in the picture, but I'll answer them both. Before you go any further, you should be familiar with the process of substitution. Substitution allows you to replace a variable with a known numeric value. I didn't complete the tables entirely, but hopefully the way I explained it will help you finish the problems.

1. y = 1.5x

if x = 1, then y = 1.5(1) = 1.5

if x = 2, then y = 1.5(2) = 3

if x = 3, then y = 1.5(3) = 4.5

See how we simply replace the x with the value of x? To find another solution, simply find a point that is on the line. For example, we could find x = 10.

y = 1.5(10) = 15

Therefore, another solution on the line is (10, 15).

2. y = 1.25x

if x = 1, then y = 1.25(1) = 1.25

if x = 3, then y = 1.25(3) = 3.75

You can use a similiar process as problem #1 to finish.

PLEASE HELP!!

Standard form is just putting (in this case) variables in alphabetical order. First we simplify- 2x+4=4y would become 1/2x+1=y. This is already in standard form, as numbers w/o variables come at the end. simplifying the next one is more tricky. first you get a variable/number alone-
9-2x-2y=4x+3
9-2y=6x+3
6-2y=6x
1-1/3y=x
1=x+1/3y
3=x+y
x+y=3
sorry if I was wrong and not of any help, But I do believe this is correct.

Pls help, Thx! Solve using the substitution method.
y = 2x - 4
6x - 3y = 12
Kay [80]
Your answer would be 0 and -4. When you plug in 2x - 4 in for the y of the second equation and solve, you get x = 0 and y = -4.

What are equivalent expressions?
Law Incorporation [45]

Answer:

Consider the expressions 32+1 and 5×2 . Both are equal to 10 . That is, they are equivalent expressions.

Now let us consider some expressions that include variables, say 5x+2 .

The expression can be rewritten as 5x+2=x+x+x+x+x+1+1 .

We can re-group the right side of the equation to 2x+3x+1+1 or x+4x+2 or some other combination. All these expressions have the same value, whenever the same value is substituted for x . That is, they are equivalent expressions.

Two expressions are said to be equivalent if they have the same value irrespective of the value of the variable(s) in them.

Example 1:

Are the two expressions 2y+5y−5+8 and 7y+3 equivalent? Explain your answer.

Combine the like terms of the first expression.

Here, the terms 2y and 5y are like terms. So, add their coefficients. 2y+5y=7y .

Also, −5 and 8 can be combined to get 3 .

Thus, 2y+5y−5+8=7y+3 .

Therefore, the two expressions are equivalent.

Example 2:

Are the two expressions 6(2a+b) and 12a+6b equivalent? Explain your answer.

Use the Distributive Law to expand the first expression.

6(2a+b)=6×2a+6×b                     =12a+6b

Therefore, the two expressions are equivalent.
