This could be due to the exaggerated colors used in paintings, sculptures or architecture. Another example is the "Grand Staircase of the Paris Opera" made by Charles Garnier. His Romantic architecture screamed out all kinds of feeling due to the exaggerated details and shape of the staircase and room. It lived up to its name, it seems like a Grand Staircase fit for a monarch and thats what makes the common man or woman feel all these emotions just by studying Garnier's Architecture. The Romantic Art age was a time to focus on the individual's feelings and perceptions of the World; from the Artist to the audience.
