According to the United States Constitution, the <em>Federal government </em>of the country is divided into three distinct arm which are the Legislative, Executive and the Judiciary arm of government.

  • The primary responsibilities of  Legislative arm of government is to creates and passes law/bills.
  • The primary responsibilities of Executive arm of government is to enforces the law created by the Legislative arm.
  • The primary responsibilities Judiciary arm of government is to interpret and apply laws to specific cases.

The system of checks and balances is established to prevent any one arm of government from becoming too powerful over another. In conclusion, the system helps to limit the power of the government.
