Basically, the five (5) themes of geography include the following;

  • <u>Region</u>: these are areas that have certain unifying or similar characteristics.
  • <u>Place</u>: these are the physical characteristics of a place.
  • <u>Human-environment interaction</u>: these are the relationships that exists within places.
  • <u>Movement</u>: these are the relationships that exists between places i.e from one place to another.
  • <u>Location</u>: these includes relative location and absolute location.

The physical characteristics of place describes everything found in that particular location and these include; plants, animals, landforms, interstate highway system, human characteristics, etc.

I'd think the main benefit was independence from Western powers in the French and the Americans. Pretty big deal, even with one million killed from fighting. Maybe one could argue that the war also resulted in stronger government that was able to resist Chinese pressure, which allowed Vietnam to defeat China when they fought in 1979. Vietnam resisted the Japanese, the French and the Americans so it is a stretch to suggest they needed a war to defeat the Chinese as well, but the war did leave Vietnam unified.
