What effects does time have on bacterial cells?

Biology

Explanation:

With time bacteria cells increase in number, exponentially. This means with each generation, the population doubles. An example is that if initially there were 2 bacteria, they become 4, then 16, then 32, then 64, 128, then 256...etcetera.  Remember bacteria can double their population in very short times. E. Coli cells double in the lab in 15 – 20 minutes.

However, bacteria are also subject to limiting factors that do not allow their cells to double indefinitely, resources such as space and nutrients limiting growth rates for bacteria especially when their numbers exceed the carrying capacity of their environment.
