The Columbian Exchange refers to the transfer of plants, animals, diseases, culture, and human populations across the Atlantic from the so-called Old World to the New World and vice-versa. The term was first coined in 1972 by Alfred W. Crosby in his book The Columbian Exchange . The title refers...

A positive effect of the Columbian exchange was the introduction of New World crops, such as potatoes and corn, to the Old World. A significant negative effect was the enslavement of African populations and the exchange of diseases between the Old and New Worlds.

Answer:

A bit of both.

Explanation:

Positives:

- Permenantly connected the Old and New Worlds together. After 1492, ships were always sailing back and forth between these two regions.

- Exhange of goods, culture and religion. Goods from the New World and Europe swapped as well as cultural idea and religions such as Catholicism made its way from Europe to the New World. The Italians wouldn’t have tomatoes to make their sauce if it weren’t for the exchange.

Negatives:

- Spread of disease. Diseases such as smallpox and influenza from the Europeans was spread to the indigenous peoples of the Americas who had no natural immunity to them and were almost wiped out, over 80% of the native population died out. A specific strain of syphillis caused problems in Europe too from the New World.

- Loss of Native Culture. Most indigenous tribes passed their beliefs down orally and rarely in records you can hold unless later recorded. With the vast majority of the natives dying out from disease, we have lost information about the culture of the natives in the generation during the exchange.

1. Why did the US become involved in the Panama Canal?
Vilka [71]
The United States wanted a method of export and transportation to and from the United States originally when Panama was a part of Colombia. This is why they helped Panama's revolution to become its own independent country. If they had good relations and Panama went as planned, the US could finally build the canal they wanted so badly. The canal now allows transportation of many of the goods we purchase and use today here in the United States.

Summarizing what tasks did the second continental of government
miskamm [114]

The second continental congress happened in Philadelphia in 1775, after the war between the US and the British began. It was composed of many of the same delegates as the First Continental Congress - it included the Founding Fathers -.

Because of the beginning of the war, the delegates knew they needed to take action. The Congress decided to create an organized army, as a result, the Continental Army was created and George Washington was appointed the commander.

They also managed the colonial war effort, the states were asked to contribute men, supplies, and funds to the war.

Congress was also responsible for writing the Declaration of Independence and established itself as the central government under the Articles of the Confederation.
