Distillation is a process for separating and collecting substances according to their reaction to heat. When heat is applied to

a mixture, the substance that evaporates and is collected as it cools is the distillate. The unevaporated portion of the mixture is the residue. Oil obtained from orange blossoms through distillation is used in perfume. Suppose the oil yield is normally distributed. In a random sample of eleven distillations, the sample mean oil yield was 980.2 grams with sample standard deviation 27.6 grams. If possible, answer (a) to (d). If not possible, explain.(a) Find the point estimate.(b) Find the standard error.(c) Find the margin of error at the 99% confidence level.(d) Find and interpret the 99% confidence interval.

Answer:

a:  980.2

b:  26.4

c:  2.7%

d:  953.8 < µ < 1006.4

Step-by-step explanation:

We need to construct a 99% confidence interval from our sample data.  The sample size is 11, so we will use t-distribution.  Our degrees of freedom are 10, our t-value we will need is: 3.169

x = 980.2, s = 27.6

We will use these values to construct the confidence interval

See attached photo for the construction of the confidence interval...

A point estimate is the the sample mean of 980.2

The standard error is 26.4 (calculated on the attached photo)

The margin of error is how many percent the confidence interval may be off by.  In this case, it's 26.4/980.2 = 0.0269, or 2.7%

The meaning of the confidence interval tells us that we are 95% sure that the true population mean is within the range of 953.8 to 1006.4 grams

On a typical long distance call you talk for 30 minutes. On a typical local call you talk for 10 minutes. Your phone company off
klio [65]

The number of long distance calls to be made can be obtained by linear programming

  • To minimize the phone bill, the number of long distance call to be made is none

Reason:

Maximum number of number of long distance calls = 15

Maximum number of local calls = 30

Number of minutes of calls to make each month = 240 minutes

Duration of each long distance call = 30 minutes

Duration of each local call = 10 minutes

Cost of long distance call = $0.08

Cost of local call = $0.03

Solution:

Let <em>X</em>, represent the number of long distance calls, and let <em>Y</em> represent the number local calls

The objective function is given as follows;

  • P = 0.08·(30)·X + 0.03·(10)·Y

P = 2.4·X + 0.3·Y

The constraints are;

X ≥ 0

Y ≥ 0

X ≤ 15

Y ≤ 30

30·X + 10·Y ≥ 240

Solving we have;

  • Y ≥ 24 - 3·X

The above inequality can be plotted with MS Excel

From the objective function, P = 2.4·X + 0.3·Y, the coefficient of the long

distance calls, <em>X</em> is larger than the coefficient of the local calls <em>Y</em>, therefore,

making the minimum possible number of long distance calls of 0, and 24

local calls will give a cost;

  • P = 2.4 × 0 + 0.3 × 24 = 7.2

Therefore, to minimize the phone bill, the number of long distance calls to

be made is <u>zero long distance calls</u>

Answer:

The average rate of change is 4.

Step-by-step explanation:

Average rate of change is simply a fancy way of saying "find the slope".

So for slope, we use (y2-y1)/(x2-x1).

(3-(-13))/(2-(-2))

16/4

Consider the net of a prism below. Describe the prism that the net models.
12345 [234]

Answer:

See Explanation

Step-by-step explanation:

The question is incomplete, as the net of the prism is not shown.

However, I will give a general explanation on how to determine the net of the three popular prisms.

(1) Rectangular prism.

It is made up of 6 rectangles

(2) Triangular prism

It consists of 3 rectangles and 2 triangles

(3) Square prism

It is made up of 6 squares
