Remember you can do anything to an equation as long as you do it to both sides

5c+16.5=13.5+10c
minus 5c both sides
16.5=13.5+5c
minus 13.5 from both sides
3=5c
divide both sides by 5
3/5=c

5c + 16.5 = 13.5 + 10c

16.5 + 5c = 13.5 + 10c

16.5 + 5c = 13.5 + 10c

16.5 + 5c + -10c = 13.5 + 10c + -10c

5c + -10c = -5c 16.5 + -5c = 13.5 + 10c + -10c

10c + -10c = 0 16.5 + -5c = 13.5 + 0 16.5 + -5c = 13.5

16.5 + -16.5 + -5c = 13.5 + -16.5

:16.5 + -16.5 = 0.0 0.0 + -5c = 13.5 + -16.5 -5c = 13.5 + -16.5

13.5 + -16.5 = -3 -5c = -3

Divide each side by '-5'.

c = 0.6 or 3/5

How do I do linear equations using the elimination method
nexus9112 [7]
In order to use the elimination method, you have to create variables that have the same coefficient—then you can eliminate them. Multiply the top equation by 5. Next add the equations, and solve for y. Substitute y = 10 into one of the original equations to find x.

Solve for n: -16 + 3n = -(8 +5n)
umka21 [38]

-16 + 3n = -(8 + 5n)

The - sign outside the parentheses acts as a -1, and so it is distributed to each term in the parentheses.

-16 + 3n = -8 - 5n

+16

3n = 8 - 5n

+5n

8n = 8

/8

n = 1
