Somatic nervous system performs the function of control of voluntary skeletal muscle.

The human nervous system is categorized into Central nervous system and Peripheral nervous system.

The central nervous system of human consists of brain and spinal cord.

The peripheral nervous system consist of nerves which lies outside of the central nervous system. The peripheral nervous consist of the Somatic and the Autonomic nervous systems.

The Somatic nervous system consist on nerves which transmits sensory & motor signals to and from the central nervous system and performs the function of voluntary control of the body movements via the use of skeletal muscles.
