Somatic nervous system performs the function of control of voluntary skeletal muscle.

The human nervous system is categorized into Central nervous system and Peripheral nervous system.

  • The central nervous system of human consists of brain and spinal cord.

  • The peripheral nervous system consist of nerves which lies outside of the central nervous system. The peripheral nervous consist of the Somatic and the Autonomic nervous systems.

  • The Somatic nervous system consist on nerves which transmits sensory & motor signals to and from the central nervous system and performs the function of voluntary control of the body movements via the use of skeletal muscles.
