A large tank is partially filled with a solution. The tank has a faucet that allows solution to enter the tank at a rate of 16 3

/4 liters per minute. The tank also has a drain that allows solution to leave the tank at a rate of 19 4/5 liters per minute. (a) What expression represents the change in volume of solution in the tank in 1 minute? (b) Simplify and give your answer as a simplified mixed number. (c) What is the change in volume of the solution after 10 minutes? Show necessary work. Give your answer as a simplified mixed number.

The change in volume per minute and the total change in the volume of the solution after 10 minutes will be - 3 \frac {1}{20} \: litres and - 30 \frac {1}{2} \: litres respectively.

  • Entry rate = 16 \frac{3}{4} per minute

  • Discharge rate = 19 \frac{4}{5} per minute

<u>Change in the volume of solution in the tank per minute can be calculated thus</u> :

  • Change in volume = (Entry rate - Discharge rate) × time

  • 16 \frac{3}{4} - 19 \frac{4}{5} = \frac{67}{4} - \frac{99}{5} = \frac{(335 - 396)}{20} = \frac{-61}{20} = - 3\frac{1}{20} \: litres \: per \: minute

<u>The total change in the volume of solution in the tank after 10 minutes can be calculated thus</u> :

  • Change in volume per minute × time

  • - \frac{61}{20} \times 10 = - \frac{610}{20} = - 30 \frac {1}{2} \: litres

Therefore, the solution in the tank decreases by 30 \frac {1}{2} \: litres after 10 minutes

Select the equation in which you use the inverse property of multiplication to find the solution.
loris [4]

Given:

Equations using properties.

To find:

The equation which use the inverse property of multiplication.

Solution:

<u>Inverse property of multiplication:</u>

<em>The product of any number and its reciprocal is always 1.</em>

Let us select the option which uses inverse property of multiplication.

Option A: \left(\frac{3}{4} \cdot \frac{4}{3}\right)+7=8

Inverse of \frac{3}{4} is \frac{4}{3}. Their product is 1.

$\frac{3}{4} \cdot \frac{4}{3}=1

This equation uses the inverse property of multiplication.

Option B: \left(-\frac{7}{8}+\frac{7}{8}\right)+4=4

Inverse of \frac{-7}{8} is \frac{8}{-7}

So, it is not true equation.

Option C: (-5 \cdot 0)-9=-9

Inverse of -5 is -\frac{1}{5}.

So, it is not true equation.

Option D: \left[7 \cdot\left(\frac{5}{7}-\frac{4}{7}\right)\right]+8=9

Here also inverse property is not used.

So, it is not true equation.

Hence the equation use the inverse property of multiplication is

$\left(\frac{3}{4} \cdot \frac{4}{3}\right)+7=8.

FAST<br> Identify the correct weight to the nearest pound.
irinina [24]

Answer:

Due to the location of the marker, it is closest to:
C.) 10/16 = 5/8 lb.

Each pound is divided into 16ths since 10 sixths are represented by the marker then the answer would be 10/16.

10 / 16 = 5 / 8

10 divided by 2 = 5
----------------------------
16 divided by 2 = 8

Therefore 10 / 16 = 5 / 8.
