Mo’s farm stand sold a total of 165 pounds of apples and peaches. She sold apples for $1.75 per pound and peaches for $2.50 per
9966 [12]

Answer: 65 pounds of Peaches were sold.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number of pounds of  Peaches sold                  = X pounds

Therefore the pound of apple sold                                 = (165 - X ) pounds

Total pounds of apple and peaches sold                       = 165 pounds

Sale made on Peaches at the cost of $2,50 per Peache = $2.50X

sale made on apple sold at the cost of $1.75 per apple  = $1.75(165 - x )

Total sale made on the sale of both Peaches and apple = $337.50

Therefore , open the bracket, add everything together and equate to the total sale made which is $337.50

 we now have

  2.50x + 1.75( 165 - x ) = 337.50

  2.50x + 1.75 x 165 - 1.75x = 337.50

  2.50x + 288.75 - 1.75x = 337.50

collect like terms

2.50x - 1.75x = 337.50 - 288.75

           0.75x = 48.75

divide through by the coefficient of x which is 0.75

                   x = 48.75/0.75

                      = 65pounds .

Therefore, Mo's farm sold 65 pounds of Peaches.

Check ;

  65 x 2.50 = $162.5

   subtract 65 from 165 to get the pound of the appel

   165 - 65 = 100 pounds of apple was sold.

 now multiply 100 x 1.75

                  = $175

Now add the two together to give the total sale ,

                $162.5 + $175  = $337.50.
