when you sit you don't do much movement, so you don't need much energy thus you don't need much oxygen thus you don't exhale much carbon dioxide.

but when you run its almost the exact opposite, you move a lot, so you need energy thus you inhale a lot of oxygen thus you exhale a lot of carbon dioxide.
