Why does NaCl have a high melting point but readily dissolves in water?
Gre4nikov [31]

NaCl IS READILY SOLUBLE IN WATER DUE TO HIGH HYDRATION ENERGY

BUT HAVE HIGH MELTING POINT DUE TO STRONG ELECTROSTATIC FORCE BETWEEN SODIUM AND CHLORIDE IONS.

Explanation:

Sodium has low melting point 98 deg celcius. In water sodium gets floated.

But sodium chloride have a high melting point because lattice is constructed due to strong electro-static force between positive sodium ions and negative chloride ions as they attract each other. This leads to strong construction so, NaCl have high temperature to break the bonds between the ions.

The melting temperature depends on the charge of the ions. Due to high hydration energy the sodium ions are readily soluble in water. Water can dissolve salt because the positive part of water molecules attracts negative chloride ions and negative part of water molecules attracts positive sodium ions.

How many unpaired electrons are present in the ground state of an atom from each of the following groups?
Paha777 [63]

Explanation:

General electronic configuration for the given groups are as follows.

For 4A(14) : ns^{2}np^{4}

This means that there are 4 unpaired electrons in group 4A(14).

For 7A(17) : ns^{2}np^{5}

So, there are 7 unpaired electrons present in group 7A(17).

For 1A(1) : ns^{1}

Hence, there is only one unpaired electron present in group 1A(1).

For 6A(16) : ns^{2}np^{4}

So, there are 6 unpaired electrons present in group 6A(16).
