Answer:  The required average rate of change from x = 0 to x = 4 is -\dfrac{1}{2}.

Step-by-step explanation:  We are given to find the average rate of change for the following function from x = 0 to x = 4 :

f(x)=-\dfrac{1}{2}x+2~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~(i)

At x = 0, the value of x is

f(0)=-\dfrac{1}{2}\times 0+2=2

and at x = 4, the value of f(x) is

f(4)=-\dfrac{1}{2}\times4+2=-2+2=0.

Therefore, the average rate of change of the function (i) from x = 0 to x = 4 i given by

A_v=\dfrac{f(4)-f(0)}{4-0}=\dfrac{0-2}{4}=-\dfrac{2}{4}=-\dfrac{1}{2}.

Thus, the required average rate of change from x = 0 to x = 4 is -\dfrac{1}{2}.

Unless you meant -1/2x+2 the top answer is correct. If you meant the other it is -1/2(d/dx(x+2), which results in -1/2(1) or -1/2.

Byron and his 3 friends spent $1.20 per pound for 8 1/2 pounds of candy. If each person paid the same amount, how much did each
-Dominant- [34]

Answer:

$2.55 per person

Step-by-step explanation:

Byron plus his 3 friends = 4 friends total. If there are 8 1/2 of candy total and there are 4 people, you would need to divide 8 1/2 by 4 which would give you  2.125. From there, you would need to multiply that by $1.20, the amount per pound which would give you $2.55. So, each person paid $2.55 for candy.

What is the range of the function f(x)=-2|x+1|?
schepotkina [342]

Answer:

The correct answer to given question is option (a).

Step-by-step explanation:

Given function: f(x)= -2|x+1|

we need to put random values of x in given function to see that range of the given function f(x) is all real numbers.

when:

x=0;    f(0)= -2|0+1|= -2|1|= -2

when x is positive i.e. x>0

x=1;     f(1)= -2|1+1|= -2|2|= -4

x=2;    f(2)= -2|2+2|= -2|4|= -8

when x is negative i.e.  x<0

x= -1;   f(-1)= -2|-1+1|= -2|0| =0

x=-2;   f(-2)= -2|-2+1|= -2|-1|=2 (with the help of mod property |-1|=1)

hence, we saw that

when we take x>0; f(x)<0

when x<0; f(x)>0

we can conclude from above steps that the range of function f(x)= -2|x+1| is all real numbers.
