Answer: $2/child and $4/adult

Step-by-step explanation:

The total fare is $14 for 2 adults and 3 children

x is the child's fare

y is the adults fare

We can say:

1)  3x + 2y = $14

2)  We are told that x = (1/2)y  [each child's fare is 1/2 each adult's fare]

3) use (2) in (1)

  3x + 2y = $14

  3(1/2)y + 2y = $14

 (3/2)y + 2y = $14

  (7/2)y = $14

  y = ($14)*(2/7)

  y = $4/adult

   x = (1/2)y; x = (1/2)(4)

   x = $2/child

Check:  Does 3x + 2y = $14 when x = $2/child and y = $4/adult?

    3x + 2y = $14

    3($2/child) + 2($4/adult) = $14

      $6   +   $8 = $14   YES

Can someone explain/show me how to do this?Absolute Value Functions
otez555 [7]
Domain: The values that X could take, so domain = (-∞,+∞)

Range: The values that the dependant variable, f(x), could take. Since we can't get negative numbers, it'd be range = [0,+∞)

X and Y intercepts: The points in which you touch the axis. On this case the only one is the point (0,0).

Increasing and decreasing refers to the region where the function increases or decreases. It increases on (0,∞), and decreases on (-∞,0).

Sorry, but I don't understand what you mean with "transformations", at least the way you're written it. If you give me a bit more of info, I'll do my best to help :)

If p(x) = x2 – 1 and q(x) = 5(x-1) which expression is equivalent to (p – q)(x)?
lilavasa [31]

Answer:

Option C is correct.

The expression which is equivalent to (p-q)(x)  is, x^2 -1 - 5(x-1)

Step-by-step explanation:

Given: p(x) = x^2 -1 and q(x) = 5(x-1)

To find the expression which is equivalent to (p-q)(x):

here p and q both are function assuming;

we can write the expression :

(p-q)(x) = p(x) - q(x) = x^2 -1 - 5(x-1)

therefore, the expression which is equivalent to (p-q)(x)  is;   x^2 -1 - 5(x-1)
