Answer:

The vertex of the graph of f(x) = |x - 13| + 11 is (13, 11).

Step-by-step explanation:

There is something called absolute value in the given function. It means two equations will result from it.

When (x -13) > 0 the resultant equation is

y = f(x) = x - 13 + 11 = x - 2 - This will be the first equation

or

When (x - 13) < 0 the resultant equation is

y = f(x) = -(x - 13) + 11 = -x + 24 - This will be the second equation.

The intersection of these lines will give the vertex as found by solving both equations at the same time.

y = x - 2

y = -x + 24

_________

2y = 0 + 22

y =  \frac{22}{2} = 11

Replacing the value of y for any one;

x = 11 + 2 = 13 (first one)

x = 24 - 11 = 13 (second one)

The vertex is (13, 11)

Explain why 256 + 4 is equivalent to (200 + 4) + (40+4) + (164)
laiz [17]

The expression 256 + 4 is equivalent to (200 + 4) + (40+4) + (16+4) according to distributive and commutative property of addition.

Given the expression 256 + 4. This can be solved using the partial sum expressed as:

256 + 4

256 + 4

= (200 + 40 + 16) + 4

According to the commutative property, A+B = B+A

The arrangement does not affect the result. Hence;

  • (200 + 40 + 16) + 4 = 4 +  (200 + 40 + 16)

Using the distributive law;

  • 4 +(200 + 40 + 16) = (200 + 4) + (40 + 4) + (16 + 4)

Hence the expression 256 + 4 is equivalent to (200 + 4) + (40+4) + (16+4) according to distributive and commutative property of addition.
