1. Rebecca Skloot asked Sonny to invite Deborah over. Sonny refused because Deborah did not want to talk to reporters about her mother. Deborah Lacks survives the popular Henrietta Lacks, whose HeLa cells helped to discover cancer.

2. The proof to show that Sonny and Day Lacks did not trust doctors was that doctors at <em>Johns Hopkins</em> used unethical practices during experiments without obtaining consent.

For example, the story was that <em>Johns Hopkins Hospital</em> was sited in a poor black community to obtain ready access to black bodies for experimentation. Doctors at the Hospital engaged in kidnapping black people at nightfall to use in experiments. Even graves and newly-born blacks did not escape this unethical practice.

3. The three reasons the Lacks family is angry about Johns Hopkins are:

  • The family feels cheated that Henrietta's cells enriched others while the family remained without medical insurance.
  • The family remained in the dark about the use of Henrietta's cells for the cancer experiment.
  • Doctors did not seek nor obtain Henrietta's consent.

Thus, <em>"The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" by Rebecca Skloot</em> gives pathetic details about the first human cells obtained from Henrietta Lacks to study cancer.  The HeLa cells are still being used for other medical experiments today.

At the beginning of the act, Elizabeth says, "The town’s gone wild." By the end of the act there was much more truth in that sta
Fiesta28 [93]

Answer:

Foreshadowing is the literary technique used in the line by Elizabeth Proctor.

The scene that took place for the loose devil in Salem is the case of the witch hunt that took over the town of Salem.

This connects to the theme of hysteria in that the trial brought everyone to an excitement that no one can seem to ignore or be able to refrain from.

Explanation:

The literary technique that Arthur Miller used in his "The Crucible" is foreshadowing. It allows a certain 'hint' to the readers about what was to come in the near future. This is aptly seen in the line spoken by Elizabeth Proctor<em> "The town's gone wild".</em>

The event that took place over the course of the act is that of the witch-hunt. Abigail and other young girls were caught in the forest, dancing and <em>"trafficking"</em> with the devil. But for this, Elizabeth Proctor was wrongly accused of the same witch-craft, and condemned to be hanged. The subsequent community turmoil that this issue brought into the town of Salem is what Elizabeth was referring to the loose devil in Salem.

Hysteria is the super excitement of people about a certain issue, feeling anxious and full of uncontrollable emotions. This is similar to the Salem witch hunt for it creates a sense of excitement in the whole community to see and know about the case. The very case brought everyone on their toes, be it young and old, all seem interested and affected by the trial.

Identify the underlined clauses either as subordinate or independent. 1. Because he ran, he was able to catch the bus. subordint
d1i1m1o1n [39]

Answer:

The question is not complete, as none of the clauses in the sentence are underlined, however, I will give you the type of each of the two clauses:

<u>Because he ran:</u> (subordinate clause)

<u>he was able to catch the bus.</u> (independent clause)

Explanation:

A clause is a part of a sentence, and a clause contains a verb.

Subordinate/dependent clauses are clauses that cannot stand alone when isolated from a sentence, and still make complete sense, instead, they help to give further meaning to the main/independent clause. In this case "Because he ran", is not a complete thought on its own, as it leads to asking the question "so what?"

Independent/main clauses can stand alone and still make sense. In this example "he was able to catch the bus" can stand alone and still make sense.
