Anxiety and stress can get you nervous and worked up, which can cause a high heartrate. It may also cause you to sweat or be hyper.

Yep. Increased heart rate is indeed a symptom of anxiety. Along with several others such as nervousness, sweating, uneasy feelings in your stomach, etc. As to why, it all has to do with blood flow. The anxiety increases your blood flow which ultimately increases your heart rate
